Dr. Ray McGee comes to us from Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Detroit where he served as senior pastor. He holds a BA in Human Resource Management from Concordia University, a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from Emory University's Candler School of Theology. He has served churches in LaSalle, Sebewaing, Flint and Detroit. An ordained Elder in Full Connection in the Detroit Annual Conference, Dr. McGee currently serves as the Director of the Michigan Area School for License as a Local Pastor. He has written and taught the curriculum at the Local Pastor Academy of Haiti, training 300 local pastors to be commissioned by the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas. He is married to Darlene ("Dar") McGee, who currently works at the Big Beaver United Methodist Church in Troy as the administrative assistant.
Reverend Sari Brown is a Michigan native who has most recently lived in Bogota, Colombia with her husband, Ricardo Angarita. She has three stepchildren, and the two younger children may join them in Grosse Pointe next year. She has also worked, studied, and done anthropological research in Bolivia, Peru, and Brazil. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degrees in religion and anthropology from Marlboro College in Marlboro, Vermont and a Master of Divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She is also fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, and a gifted singer and songwriter.
Director of Music
Pat became director of music at GPUMC in 1984. She is responsible for the Chancel Choir, the Wesley Singers, and the Bell Choir. Pat grew up in Detroit and graduated from Cass Technical High School in 1965. She received her bachelor’s degree in music education from Eastern Michigan University and her master’s in music from Wayne State University. She joined the Warren Consolidated School District in 1972.
A lifelong Grosse Pointer, Doug has been organist at GPUMC since 1979. He began playing piano at age eight and was introduced to the organ while attending Hope College where he majored in music literature and history. He did post-graduate work in music at the University of Michigan School of Music in Ann Arbor.
Children's Choir Director
Tamara became the Children's Choir Director in 2004. Tamara is a graduate of Oscoda Area High School (1995), Michigan State University (B.M., 2000) and was awarded a Masters of Arts degree in Speech - Language Pathology from Wayne State University (2006). Tamara is a practicing Music Therapist as well as a Speech - Language Pathologist. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Speech - Language Pathology from Wayne State University. Tamara enjoys cooking, traveling and spending time with her husband Britt and their cats.
Carol became the Office Manager in 2004. Carol is a graduate of Ishpeming High School and Northern Michigan University. She enjoys gardening, walking, biking, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
Josh joined us as GPUMC custodian in 2015 and rapidly became the best-loved of our current custodians. He promises to get us some actual information about him - and even a photo - any time now.
