Church has reopened for in-person worship!

Grosse Pointe United Methodist Church is once again gathering for in-person worship services.

We are meeting in the Memorial Garden at 9:30 am Sunday and also offering a livestream of the service for those who was unable to be with us in person.

Many elements of the service are the same, but many others are different from what we have offered in the past.

We ask attendees to:

  • Register their intention to attend the service since we are limited to having 100 persons at worship.
  • Follow social distancing recommendations by wearing a mask, sitting six feet from others, refraining from hugging or shaking hands.
  • Bring your own lawn chair. We will place folding chairs on the lawn and each of those will be sanitized before and after use. But bringing your own chair reduces the staff’s work following the service and may make you feel more comfortable as well.
  • Download a bulletin at home and bring a copy with them to church — or be prepared to view the bulletin on a smartphone during the service.

The service will include a Chancel Chat, but we will not be offering nursery or Sunday School. Children will remain with their families during the service. GPUMC will continue to provide a Virtual Sunday School program through the summer.

We also will not have any congregational singing. We will offer instrumental music and vocal soloists/duets as appropriate.

In sum, many parts of the service will be just like they were, except they will all be different.

The main thing is for us to remain what we’ve always been, a caring, welcoming part of the Body of Christ, alive and rejoicing as we reach out to our community and beyond, living the good news of Jesus Christ.
